A few ideas to get you started

  • Build a sandbox — or section off an area dedicated to messy play.
  • Lay down a strip of grass that can withstand lawn games such as bocce ball, mini golf or oversized Jenga. This is also a perfect area for one-off toys like activity tables or portable slides.
  • When adding pathways, include rock mazes or playfully arranged stepping stones that your children can run along.
  • Planning for lounge seating? Don’t forget kid-sized chairs so your little ones can be part of the fun.
  • And for nature-minded kids, create a garden low to the ground where you can plant seeds and connect with the outdoors together.

If you have a bigger yard and more budget, add a full-on playset your kids get to call their own. These come in various sizes with options for swings, slides, rock walls, monkey bars, and more.
